desktops last longer because of reliable parts and better ventilation...laptops are reliable too but they break down faster because of heating...
apple is number one.asus second.hp third.sony fourth and so on.but it all depends what u want to do with those computers and how much u have to spend.
You have a failed hard drive.i have two ipods like yours with similiar problems.it cost like 80 plus to fix.dont think its worth fixin though.
