Over the weekend, we reported on some incredibly exciting news pertaining to the status of the iOS 6, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak status. Planetbeing and pod2g (two well-known iOS security experts and hackers who have contributed to the development of numerous utilities) revealed that they discovered two new vulnerabilities in a single day, which is a major accomplishment in such a short amount of time.

Today planetbeing sent a tweet to his followers, revealing that they’ve made “tons of progress” in the past few days on the iOS 6+ Untethered Jailbreak. Furthermore, planetbeing explicitly stated that he thinks the “future is looking bright for jailbreaking”.

Could he be referring to the release of not only an Untethered Jailbreak, but also the bootROM-based Jailbreak for A5, A5X, A6 and A6X-powered devices that p0sixninja announced he was in the process of developing back in November? Such a Jailbreak could essentially ensure that the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, fifth-generation iPod touch, iPad mini, third-generation iPad, iPhone 5 and the fourth-generation iPad will be able to be Jailbroken immediately after Apple releases future firmwares for said devices – much like the current bootROM Jailbreak for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the fourth-generation iPod touch (additional details available here).

Whatever planetbeing was alluding to, it’s certainly caught the attention of numerous influential members of the Jailbreaking world. It will certainly revolutionize the Jailbreaking scene, MuscleNerd (the primary iOS hacker and public face of the iPhone Dev Team) even felt the need to retweet planetbeing’s hopeful status update.

Unfortunately, any additional details are scarce, as most progress and accomplishments are kept within the small circle of security experts that contribute to the development of Jailbreak solutions. After all, pod2g announced earlier this month that the iOS 6+ Untethered Jailbreak is currently in underground development and that most information is being withheld from the public.

It seems as if a new Jailbreak for all iOS-based devices on iOS 6 or higher is on the horizon and will hopefully, if everything goes according to schedule, be released after Apple issues iOS 6.1 to the public. Stay tuned for complete coverage on the forthcoming iOS 6, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak.
