Okay so I decided to post this on here to see if any computer whizzes had an answer for this.

I use an Asus Q502LA laptop as my daily computer. I've noticed recently that when I turn it on. It runs good. However, when I restart it while it's already on (no matter how long it's been on), it runs noticeably faster and more responsive. I cannot put my hand on what the difference is between turning it on the first time and restarting it. Things like navigating through the file explorer, browsing websites on Chrome and analyzing and playing music in Serato is all quicker after the restart. It'd be nice if it can run like this when I turn it on the first time lol. Anyone has any thoughts on what it might be?

My guess is that when you "turn it on", it is resuming from a sleep mode state and not starting from a cold state, meaning that the computer was not completely turned off. That is, Start - Power - Shutdown.

When you close your lid or even press the power button (press and hold excluded) on your laptop, the Operating System doesn't necessary shutdown. It may go into a sleep or hibernate mode. It depends on your power settings. Type "power and sleep settings" then click on the gear icon to check what settings you have.

The other replies are correct, the computer starts fresh from a reboot or a cold boot (start - shutdown) and runs great! After a while it slows down, this is typical WinDoze :)

For example, if you normally just close the lid when you finish using your laptop and want it to run great all the time, you may consider changing the setting (mentioned above) to "shutdown" the computer when the lid is closed. That way, it will start fresh all the time. However, a cold boot takes longer to start up the Operating System than resuming from sleep mode (usually). It will be slower to start up, unless you have a SSD, then it's not a big deal.

    Hope this helps!

I honestly agreed with Stone0829 and if you had the computer for quite sometime now. You should consider upgrade the Memory to minimize these little errors.

Check your task manager for any start up programs trying to update. Also remove any unnessesary start up program. Maybe it was trying to check for an update for the day & after you restarted it skipped that step.
