If you're serious about becoming a "real" DJ, save your money and get Scratch Live, a pair of turntables, and a mixer with a magnetic crossfader. Then, subscribe to a DJ pool and pay for high quality music. Stay organized with your collection and practice. Record your practice sessions, post them, and eventually your mixes will gain recognition and bigger things will happen.

Don't go cheap and buy a cheap console, download a cracked version of Virtual DJ, and download music from Youtube. You'll just become another "bedroom" DJ like the thousands who think they're better than every other DJ out there. You'll end up with a few gigs for bday parties and such, but lack the experience and fail to gain any real respect within the industry.

djplayea -- you right on the money, but not everyone does it for a profession.

Start off small, buy a mixer and some speakers. Once you get the hang of it, start adding to the system and upgrade when your ready.
