Windows 8.1 w/ Classic Shell. Windows 8 includes a lot of built in optimizations for SSD's and self healing/optimizing algorithms. Ever noticed that your W8 boots a lot faster than W7? It's proven on a technical level.

I run 7 all around but I'm hearing good things about 8.1....Considering trying it out on a VM for a bit.

Good to know alot of people still like windows 7. I was thinking about upgrading to windows 8.1 but looks like 7 still hold the crown lol.

Windows 8/8.1 doesnt make much sense unless you have a computer/laptop that works with touchscreen. The interface is designed for it. Other than that, Windows 7 is the best for me since I dont have touchscreen on my computer.

As far as windows 8 / 8.1 and 7 go in terms of performance I'd say 8+ is the way to go, the have really worked on the effiiciency of the system, as far as the interface, I used to always like7 more. But once you get used to 8/8.1 7 becomes quite trashy. The windows system overall is just for use of comercial software like office and acid pro and all that. But if you move over to the linux environment and spend some time there you will fall in love with all the great performance and tweaks that you can perform. The only downside with linux is that it takes practice to be able to use it efficiently and alot of experimentations. But recent releases of say Ubuntu is quite stable. And of course there are many alternatives (free) for office, acid pro , vdj etc. In fact you can run your own audio server through your system. The only reason I use windows is because I haven't found a decent alternative to propellerhead's reason. But that's about it, I'd definitely go with linux and if you are a starter and want to try it out before actually installing it. I reccomend you use wubi, it installs ubuntu like if its a program in windows and when you restart the computer it gives you the option to choose which os you wanna boot. If you boot into windows you can see ubuntu as a program and just uninstall it if you are not happy with it or you f**ked it up by doing something crazy ;) In this context though I like the windows 8 series more than 7.
