Seagate GoFlex. I have one, my friends have it, we all never had a problem. And to be honest, I could take a lot better care of my external.

not because that one western digital hard drive crashed, means that brand is not good, i personally think its the best brand, i been building computers since 2005, ive always replaced faulty hard drives, with western digitals, for my external hard drive i use to dj with , i just bought a new wd passport that supports usb 3.0 also, so its very fast & small as hell lol, i had a bigger one that needed to be plugged into an outlet to be powered so im going to sell that, but overall in my opinion, western digital is the way to go, never failed me yet. take good care of your stuff lol.

I had a 500gb WD... crashed. My friend went thru 3 WD's, and theres a lot of other people who had bad problems with WD. I've had two Toshiba Drives crash on me too. I use the Seagate drives out of my PS3's (upgraded them with bigger HDs) today as small externals.

The only problem I've ever seen with Seagate is my cousin's PS3 drive failed, and I had to replace it for him.

It seems like people are either Fxck WD or Team WD lol. I have a 2TB WD right now, but who knows if the drive inside the enclosure is even WD lol.

word lol , im not hatin on seagate, their also a great brand, never had troubles with them, im just used to wd and never experience problems so far, knock on wood lmao, & yeah thats true, just like computers are hp but none of the parts inside is made by hp rofl just the case, so imagine what cud be under a hard drive enclosure.

I agree with Mark. I've had a Western Digital for about 3+ years and it stills works for me.

I've got a WESTERN DIGITAL & MAXTOR BASICS and both are working 100% If you take care of your external hard drive and do not let any damage acure to it by not accidently dropping it on the floor it will not cause you problems by a fault or it crashing for any apparent reason! I have had my maxtor for MONTHS!! and it works the lick!!

I have the Seagate Go Flex and a Lacie Hard drive. Both have been working great. Had a couple WD and both crashed on. If you can afford the Lacie go with it. Second best in my opinion is the Seagate Go Flex.

bro you need to go with Western Digital. I've had my hdd knocked off a table by a drunk man, i've dropped my hdd over probably 6 times, and the clips holding the case together broke, so you can see clear inside the hdd. Everytime i drop my hdd i get so nervous bc i have too much music to lose, if i do i think id die. Western Digital hdd's in my experience are built like tanks. I have the Western Digital 1Tb mybook elite.

edit*- btw my hdd still works perfectly

yew could get a western digital or a seagate .. they are the best harddrives out on the market and they build them now so they are reduced to shock and dropping .. i got a 1tb harddrive from WD and it still hasnt been fulled yet ... they are long lasting and durable.

You guys know you can retrieve the data from the hard drive ?

Im into that SSD business, hope soon its going to replace these SATA drives. I like the idea of more up-time on a drive and a significantly lower crash rate.

You know personally I would believe that having a hard drive as a DJ would be really bad considering your drive is electromagnetic, and you the dj's are constantly around electromagnetic objects w/ constant bass moving the air. Maybe the best thing to get is something with a metallic casing just to keep the negative charges and the positive charges away, or separate from the exterior to the interior of the drive. Also making sure your drive doesn't have any static on the drive housing, would be a good idea to. Like just keep it grounded with a metallic cable to some bolt or something; at the same time put it in a place where the air around it cannot affect it. All that advice, and of course don't drop the drive or include any direct impact to the drive itself.
With the current drives we have nowadays its almost impossible to find a drive that will not crash for sure, considering many different factors leaking into deeper areas than exposed above.
btw always back up, and always have a backup drive, or TWO because you never know if the one you backed up onto crashes.
