Future of Chutney?

i personally dont like this new style of chutney thats out now, its always the same lyrics in the song and really is just about drinking rum and cheating on each other. what ever happened to the songs that you could really dance too. dont get me wrong there are some artist who have great beats but most of it now is "she hornin meh" or "ah drinking meh rum". its get old soo fast. thank god for the classics who still make songs and keep it original

 

in the first place its not even chutney music. anything that comes out of the pungalunks factory is bollney. bollney is a genre that has a stolen melody from a hindi song with english lyrics. chutney however is a genre with dholak ,dhantal and harmonium with bhojpuri, that means no english.i learnt this from the real chutney artistes who sing in the language. songs like nani wine would be chutney soca. so basically trinidads view of music is screwed up . 2006-2008 would be the turning point where chutney changed. if there are any producers willing to make a REAL chutney song let me know. im a fusion artist in Toronto and i need to get music done.

 

anyone else hate how nowadays the chutney singers trying to sound american? when a trini try to talk with a american accent, it sounds very bad.

 

I made this post a few years ago but recently I posted in a thread involving chutney & here's what I said:

New chutney... ok alot of people hate it, I won't lie I do too but my reason is because I hear "rum" in every song, I don't really hate it for its lack of originality where they would take a melody from an indian song & change up the lyrics, I actually think that's somewhat creative, I used to criticize it before but I look at it now & honestly... the last time a chutney song came out where it was referred to as old chutney was Mor Tor, the last successful song I mean, & on top of that the original wasn't even a big hit, the remix with Machel was where it got its recognition as well as the remix Double Impact Sound Crew did on Da Chutney Zone 2. Fact is old chutney died simply because it wasn't getting anywhere, Big Rich came in the picture & helped turned everything around, honestly most of us who've been listening to chutney for years hate it but the genre would've died if it kept going at the rate it was going. If u listen to new chutney & u still have the mindset that "this sucks, this is another indian melody, old chutney should come back" then give up on chutney because I doubt it's gonna change. My advice is accept the change cause every music genre overtime is gonna change & if u can't adapt to change then u might as well stop listening to music.

 

i havent followed chutney artists dat much but chutney has changes as much as i am young i prefer the ole school chutney the Yankarans dev gatto the songs dat were sang in hindi much of which i dont understan. chutney has turned into a rum promo or songs bout who giving blow. i can get groovin got any good chutney song but i tink tradition has change. but i agree in some ways its good cause the new chutney is for this generation. i guess am ole school i admit i search the site for ole soca and chutney casue when i play dem as i drive down the road ppl turn and r reminded of the good ole dayz.
