My cousin has a toshiba a505 satellite laptop and it won't turn on.. When he plugs the charger in, it keeps turning on and off every 2 seconds. What is wrong?

I think that's a either a motherboard issue or.. i'm not too sure if this can affect it, but probably it's too hot to start it up.. cuz for my laptop, if you have it plugged in without the battery and it get's too hot, it shuts off, and it won't turn back on till it was cool...
LOL trust me it can happen ..

hmm try this : put the battery in, charge it. keep the laptop in a cool room, or if you have a cooler, put it on there let the laptop cool down and try turning it on.

most likely ur psu on ur mobo failed. if u manage to keep the laptop on for abt 2-5 minutes when it is cooled then its overheating causing ur problem.

r u sure ur computer is turning off? OR IS YOUR SCREEN TURNING OFF? cuz wen u plug in the HDMI, u need to reset ur video card, well idk if reset is the proper term for it but u press "FN" and another key that looks like a screen, and it basically resets ur video card

yeah this could be true too. double check and make sure you're losing power not your screen is in a different display mode. If you're not losing power, toggle the FN + i believe for you it's F5, and you should see your screen come back on in a couple of seconds.

Your computer is power cycling itself because of the taste of dirty HDMI wires. Follow these steps to clean your HDMI cable connectors so your laptop doesn't feel grossed out anymore.

    1. Apply a small amount of bacitracin to your laptop's vga/hdmi port
    2. Dip your hdmi cable ends into a 30/70 mix of water and peroxide. This would remove the dust, smog and other pollution from your cables.
    3. Hang your cables outside to dry in the sun as patting them dry is not enough. This way all of the water is evaporated.
    4. Apply a handful of African Shea Nut Butter(available from amazon) to your outer cable coating. Most cables will end up with a case of sunburn from drying. The Shea Nut Butter would condition and re-moisturize the cables outer coating.
    5. Buy a fresh lime from your local supermarket. Proceed to Jaray your HDMI cable. This is for no evil spirits to possess your cable. The lime juice also keeps it smelling fresh. Afterwards, use one half of the lime to create lime water, and leave the other outside of your front door to ward off Jumbies(spirits).
    6. Drink the lime water.
    7. Plug in your HDMI cable and whalaa!! It works perfectly.

Right now, were just trying to get the computer to stay on and work.

To Trev: I'm pretty sure its the laptop that is powering off, and what is FN?

If it's overheating leave it for awhile by a fan.
If it's windows you would have to reload it right when it starts up

FN is the function key it's next to ctrl on the left hand side of your keyboard. You need to buy a new battery for the laptop and are you using the original charger or a universal charger ?

lmfaoo @ trigga. unplug the hdmi and try turning it on, do you even see the bootup screen at least? if its under warranty give them a call. also if this started from the hdmi, check that the port isnt dirty, because the laptop could be thinking its connected when its not. i dont really think overheating is an issue if you hear the fans spin up.
