i choose Rakesh only because of the simple fact that he keeps bringing out big chunes.
and his voice is amazing, listen to Janey Chaley.

your right terry doesnt sing his own songs , BUT who does?
not one chutney artist out there HASNT RE SINGED OR RE SUNG anothers work.
that goes WITH EVERY chutney artist.
there are a few that have written there own songs and its always hit and miss.
idk how often youve been out and seen these artists perform.
but believe it or not TERRY G performs allot more then most of them do and not only in queens its all over the world.
he may not have the most original songs, but he entertains and entertains VERY WELL.

to me imo, queens yasmin is from guyana, and u know what all her songs pertain to living in guyana. so why not?
when i listen to her chunes i relate 10 times more then sundar and anand.
im not from tnt, idk wtf goes on over there.
and i cant stress how good of a singer sundar popo was , but his songs werent all that.
he had more misses then hits. and his hits is what gives him the name no doubt.

youd still here more khanchan and anand yankaran at parties wayy before a sundar track hits.
and if there are any sundar tracks thats gonna knock ah crowd its gonna be the same old 2 piece chunes that everyone knows.
i have a ton of sundar records, out of most of them, there are only a few songs that even came off the records to hit cds and cassettes the rest are on lp and no one will ever put it out via cd or cassette in this day because its not even good chunes.
i rest my case right there.

i hope when you guys are listing ur artists here your keeping in mind not to compare the new chunes that are coming out, one thing for sure is that time will only tell how well a artist plays out, if he or she can keep it coming for years to come, and there old chunes become gold in our culture of westindian chunes thats what makes the song hot.

    DJ JONES IVS...
I do agree with you to an extent. I agree that Terry is a great performer. I've seen him perform numerous times, and he puts on a great show. Although Queens yasmine is great for the people, i still don't think she is greater than Anand Yankaran. Yankaran sings alot of bhajans that are taken to parties because they are misunderstood. I for one am one of those people that dance to them knowing fully well what they are lol. Now as for Sundar...Sundar to me was a pioneer that introduced me to Chutney. I heard his music first and knew it first. Even in Guyana his status is untouchable. This poll was not for success of songs, as you say hit or miss, but for best artist. I think he was absolutely incredible. I can sit and listen to ALL of his songs, unlike terry. Kanchan is in the same category as Sundar IMO. RIP Sundar, Kanchan, and Babla.

Sundar shouldve been in this poll for without his inspiration many wouldnt have came out singing. Rakesh takes it home. Your Talking about one of the best artistes out there who would make a few tunes that would hot up any dance floor.

rakesh yankaran...he puts out hits after hits

  9. i would say for pure chutney wise it"ll be Rakesh Yankarran. Janay chalay is one big ****ing chune budday!

for soca chutney i would say Ravi B. This man is very talented and could sing very good.
Dularie Nanny was a killer, and this bai is the future of chutney.

    other earning votes:
terry gajraj is de man for guyanese chutney. Rum Drinkaz is wan nice chunee.
rikki jai... this man does mek chune and then disappear. I like his new song Jai Ke Paare.

Wham to Dil E Naadan? LMFAOOO!

Rooplal Girdharie should really really really be on this list...his talent is AMAZING! listen to his two new songs...along with sa ra ra, and o lal meri....he may not be the best (Anand or Rakesh) but he's certainly worth consideration

Sonny Mann - yeah this man sing a couple good songs, but he didn't have consistent hits. His include Lotaylal, Roll Boujie, Tere Gowna and Everybody Dancing. He's good, but not the great.

Rikki Jai - he has several hits to his name, some great dancing songs, Mor Tor, Bhol Bhol, Barman, even his earlier hits such as Sumintra.

D' Hitman - this man has alot of good chunes, Doh Hold Me Back, Mr.Shankar, Fiyah Water, Bring De Rum, and plus his collaborations with Ravi B, Hunter and others.

Ravi B - i would say, he is the most talented Chutney Soca artist. His hits include Rum Is Meh Lover, Shanti, Dularie Nanny, Ah Drinka, Jep Sting, Tek Meh Gyal, Chaye Mandohiysan, Ta La La, Chutney Pressure, Yahoo, and plus his hindi singovers are good too, my vote goes for best Chutney Soca artist.

Terry Gajraj - great singer back in the 90's, pioneer in Guyanese chutney, many hits, but recently he's having a few hits, Why You Leave, Wine All Around, Berbice River.

Rakesh Yankaran & Anand Yankaran <-- CHUTNEY KINGS! you can name a handful of rakesh songs and their quite amazing and their the real meaning of chutney ! vote goes to RAKESH YANKARRAN.

Adesh Samaroo - his voice is golden, and plus Rajin Jheem, Caroni Close Down, Janet, Rum TIll I Die were huge hits, but recently since the accident, he doesnt really sing much.

Dont forget Ramdew Chaitoe ppl, he has true talent, he has really good skills on the harmonium and he sings classical chutney. I think he has the most talent. Rakesh is is good too, but Ramdew's voice was a lot stronger and had a lot more skills on the hamonuim and atleast he showed it.
